ESAT Scores
The ESAT gives you a separate score for each module, from 1.0 to 9.0, and there is no pass mark. There is also no official ESAT score conversion table, because the test has never released a paper-based series with one.
How the ESAT is scored
- Each module is scored on its own. You do not get one combined ESAT score.
- The scale is shared across versions and sittings so that scores can be compared.
- There is no negative marking.
- For the ESAT and the TARA, each module is equated and scaled separately.
- Sample tests on the Pearson player do not award a score. UAT-UK says that is intentional.
What the score scale means
The Explanation of Results for October 2025 and January 2026 says the scale is designed so typical candidates score around 4.5, and about 10% score higher than 7.0. UAT-UK does not publish a full numerical distribution or a grade boundary. Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford, and UCL do not publish an ESAT cut-off on the UAT-UK pages. The score is used with the rest of the application.

Is there an ESAT score conversion table?
No. Unlike the TMUA, which inherited paper tests from 2016 to 2023, the ESAT has no published raw-mark table to aim at. Conversion tools elsewhere are estimates. The only official reference points in the explanation of results are a typical score around 4.5 and about 10% of candidates above 7.0.
Module combinations and the ENGAA / NSAA archives are on the ESAT past papers page.
Common questions
What is a good ESAT score?
There is no pass mark. The explanation of results says a typical score is around 4.5, and about 10% of candidates score above 7.0. Each module has its own score.
Does the ESAT have grade boundaries?
No. UAT-UK does not publish grade boundaries or a pass mark.
Can I convert my ESAT score?
There is no official conversion table. The ESAT has no released live papers and no single combined score to convert.
Is the ESAT the same scale as the TMUA?
Both report 1.0 to 9.0, but they are separate tests scaled against separate cohorts. Do not convert one into the other.
How many modules do I sit?
All candidates sit Mathematics 1. Most courses add two further modules. The combination is fixed when you book.
When do ESAT results come out?
About four weeks after the sitting, via your UAT-UK account. Oxford lists 8 February 2027 for the January UAT-UK sitting.
