Overview:

The ability to prepare a focused persuasive presentation and deliver it to a group is a critical skill for success in any organization. This assignment will help you develop these skills.

Each manager will select a professional quality book about management, read the book, and make a presentation to recommend whether the rest of us should read this book. Your presentation should be focused and practiced so that you can present it to the class in three to five minutes.

This is not a ‘book report’; please do not present a summary of the book. This needs to be your personal recommendation, based on your experience of the book, convincingly supported with appropriate content about the author and the book. Persuade us why this book was valuable to you (or why it was a waste of time), and produce in us a desire to read or avoid the book.

Submit your book title through the assignment link in this module

Read the book. You will also have to do some additional research on the author, based on the content instructions in this module.

PREPARE YOUR PERSUASIVE PRESENTATION:

Draft the content of your Persuasive Presentation according to the instructions in this module

Prepare a Powerpoint presentation according to the instructions and best practices presented in class and in this module.

Presentation – Assignment Grading:

This assignment is worth a total of 100 points.

10 points = Submit book title

20 points = Submit PowerPoint file with slides and presentation notes

70 points = Present in class

The attached listing includes the author, title, and publisher information for books on a variety of topics, from understanding people to leadership, from change management to women’s empowerment, from building teams to innovation and entrepreneurship. Each book has a web link to information about the book and the author.

If you wish to use a different book, discuss this with me. The focus must be on exploring quality professional literature on management, people, organizations, teams, leadership, or innovation.

Your presentation for this class will be a 3- to 5-minute persuasive presentation about the book you read, either recommending the book to others or warning them away from the book.

Before preparing your slides and presentation notes, you will need to draft the content based on the following outline. The draft is not a graded part of this assignment, but is critical to producing quality slides and presentation notes, which will be a graded part of the assignment. The recommended number of slides you will be using to cover each point follows the content point, to aid you in judging the amount of detail for that point.
